Golf course questions:
IS A HANDICAP GREEN CARD NEEDED? NO
At present, to play golf in Ko Samui a green card is not required, but a certain amount of experience is recommended.
IS A HANDICAP CARD NEEDED TO PLAY GOLF? NO
Golf courses in Samui will allow you to play golf without a handicap card, but you are required to follow the basic etiquette of the game and to keep up with the minimum pace of play.
IS THERE A DRESS CODE? YES
Appropriate Mens dress code:
Golf shoes, tailored long pants, smart shorts, socks, short sleeved shirt with collar.
Not Acceptable:
Jogging shorts, gym shorts, denim shorts, football shirts & shorts, mesh shirts, round neck t-shirts, slip on shoes, flip flops, sandals, running/non-golf/open toe shoes.
Appropriate Ladies dress code:
Golf shoes, tailored shorts, pants, slacks, skirts & blouse, short sleeved shirt with collar.
Not Acceptable:
Football shirts & shorts, mini shorts/ skirts. tights, leotards, leggings, jogging shorts, denims, slip on shoes, sandals, flip flops, running/non golf/open toe shoes.
Soft spiked golf shoes are recommended!
WHY IN THAILAND OUR CADDIES NEEDED?
It is a rule & regulation that certain golf courses in Koh Samui each golf player must be accompanied by at least one caddy even though you have a golf cart. Golf carts are normally driven by caddies and they are strictly forbidden to drive on the fairway, they must follow the concrete path. Caddies will assist you on club selection, raking bunkers & filling in divots.
MAY I TAKE MORE THAN ONE CADDY? YES
You may, only if a golf cart is not required.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM MY CADDY?
Communication will vary, some will be more advanced in English language.Some will have basic English skills. Please have patience they are only here to assist you with basic yardages, let you know where the hazards are located, to indicate on how the putts will break. Most importantly your caddie should be polite & friendly. The caddie will drive the golf cart, rake bunkers, fill divots, fix ball marks, clean clubs and mark your ball if you wish.
CAN I CHOOSE A SPECIFIC CADDY? NO
Caddies in Koh Samui normally work on rotation.
HOW MUCH DO I TIP MY CADDY?
In Thailand the normal tip is 300 baht for 18 holes.
ISN’T THE CADDY FEE PAID TO THE GOLF COURSE PART OF THE TIP? NO
The caddy does not receive all of the caddy fee paid to the golf course.
DO I NEED SPIKES?
Spikes are not compulsory, but advised for grip, Soft spikes are preferred in Ko Samui.
CAN WE SHARE GOLF BAGS WHILE PLAYING? NO
Sharing golf bags is not allowed, this is to avoid slow play. This is a rule & regulation in Ko Samui.
CAN I RENT GOLF CLUBS? YES
Every golf club in Koh Samui & Rajjaprabha (Mainland) will provide you with rental sets from 700-2,000 baht for 18 holes.. However some golf courses will have a limited choice. For serious golfers we recommend you bring your own set. Although at SamuiGolf Holidays we can provide a selection of rental sets if available.
DO ALL COURSES IN SAMUI HAVE GOLF CARTS?
Golf carts are available at Santiburi Golf & Country club, Royal Samui Country Club & Rajjaprabha Golf Club,(mainland course) There are no golf carts at Bophut Hills par 3 Golf club.
WHICH GOLF COURSES IN KOH SAMUI IS IT COMPULSORY TO USE A CART?
Currently there are two main courses in Koh Samui, Santiburi ( 750 baht 18 holes) & Royal Samui country club (600 baht 18 holes, 800 baht if 2 pers share)
Note: Our package rate is not inclusive of golf cart rental,caddy fee or caddy tip. You will have to pay the extra charge to Santiburi of (750 baht), Royal Samui (600-800 baht) & (600-800 baht) Rajjaprabha Golf Club (mainland course) carts are not Compulsory.
DO ALL COURSES IN SAMUI HAVE GOLF CADDIES?
Caddy’s are compulsory at Santiburi golf & Country club and Bophut Hills Par 3. Currently there are no caddy’s available at Royal Samui Golf & Country Club. Rajjaprabha Golf Club ( mainland course) caddies are compulsory.
CAN I PLAY AS A TWOSOME OR A SINGLE?
You can as long as the course is not to busy. However you must follow the direction of the starter on the tee as to whether it would be advisable to join up. A single player or twosome must appreciate the slower pace especially if there are several 4 balls ahead of them.
Every golf course strictly reserves the right to pair any single or twosome on the same flight.
DO YOU ALLOW A 5 BALL TO PLAY TOGETHER?
Most golf courses only allow international standard of 4-balls to play. However most golf courses will make exceptions if it’s not to busy.
